Update December 19, 2022:

All is proceeding well.

Due to the holidays, the contractor will shut down on Wednesday 12/21/2022 – last workday. They will return after New Year's on 01/09/2023.

Subject to the weather, the contractor should complete the remaining sewer construction work in the street by 01/20/2023.

Following completion of the underground construction and upon testing of the new lines and laterals, the remaining homes will receive a Letter to Connect to the Municipal system.

In the spring, final milling and restoration of the construction excavation will be completed.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from Montville Township!

Update September 30, 2022

Construction continues towards completion of the western portion of the project.

The process to allow connections, subsequent to construction requires the following steps:

  1. Testing of the installed lines to assure they are properly constructed.
  2. Certification by the Engineer of record of satisfactory Construction and testing
  3. Acceptance by the Governing Body (Committee) by Public Resolution
  4. Notification letters are sent to the homes.

As of this date, we have 22 sewer laterals that have been tested and certified by the Engineer of Record. At this past Tuesday’s Committee meeting, the Governing Body Passed Resolution 2022-296 accepting this portion of the Sewer Improvements as part of the Public Utility.

The Township Health Officer has been directed to notify property owners of the project’s completion and connection requirement. Letters will be sent to the following homes:

Old Lane Extension, house numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 15

48 Abbott Road

Abbott Road, house numbers 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 42, 44, 45, 46, 47 and

19 Stafford Place

The contractor will be continuing work on Monday, 10/3/2022. As Construction, testing, certification, and acceptance moves forward in steps, additional updates will be provided.

Construction Equipment overnight storage

You may see construction equipment in your area as the project moves each day.

We have received concerns regarding the placement of parked construction equipment on Old Lane Extension. We have met with the contractor and the Montville Police Department to discuss and they will be moving equipment to the end of Abbott Road on the weekends.

During weekdays, we will store some equipment, that does not have rubber tires, in select locations on side streets where there should be little impact to traffic and safety. On Monday, after the work is completed for the day, the excavator will be located overnight at the end of Abbott Rd by Old Lane Extension.

If there are any concerns with equipment storage, or any project issues,  please contact Dave Kirkham, Director of Water and Sewer at 973 331-3330.

Update June 17, 2022

Construction has begun! Materials have finally arrived and the contractor has started at the Valhalla and Old Lane Extension intersection, and is proceeding uphill to Abbott Rd next

Our contractor recently provided a wooden stake that will serve as the marker for the installation location of the sanitary sewer cleanout. The cleanout location establishes the boundary between your property and the public Right-of-Way. It also indicates the location where your private plumber should bring the connection from your house.

Please select a spot four (4) feet from the edge of the pavement that will be ideal for the location of the cleanout. Ideal locations include grassy or planted areas away from trees that also align with the sewer connection coming from your house. It is recommended that you consult with your sewer line installation contractor for placement of the stake.

It is vital that you have the stake in place on your property.

Any questions, please email: OldLaneSewer@montvillenj.org, or you can reach the Water and Sewer Director at 973 331-3330.

Update June 10, 2022

The day is finally upon us! As you may see, the contractor has mobilized equipment and materials and is set to begin prep work on Monday, June 13th.

The contractor has met with the Police Department to arrange for traffic control for Tuesday’s anticipated groundbreaking at 9:00 am.  Work shall begin at the intersection of Valhalla Road and Old Lane Extension.

Please remember to have your wooden stakes placed in your yard where you want the sanitary sewer cleanout to be located. This is where the contractor will run the pipe to your property.

You may see various utility companies, Montville Township’s Water & Sewer Department included, continuing to complete the required mark-outs of the construction area. Prior to any excavation, the contractor must make notification to all affected utilities of their plan to excavate, including date, area, and reason.

By law, the contractor may not excavate until all utilities are marked. The markings will be seen as paint marks on the hard surfaces and possibly flags on the softer surfaces. There is a color code to the mark outs depending on the utility involved.

Any questions or concerns can be communicated through the Old Lane Project email address, OldLaneSewer@montvillenj.org,  or you can also speak directly with the Water and Sewer Director, David Kirkham, at (973) 331-3330.

UPDATE May 5, 2022:

Activity is beginning for the project!

The supplies for the project are becoming available, and construction and excavation equipment is being mobilized to the area.  Although there’s been a delay in the delivery of PVC pipe due to procurement issues that we’ve all been experiencing, pipe is said to be arriving in the next week or two.

Additionally, you may see the various utility companies, including Montville Township Water and Sewer employees, completing the required mark-outs of the construction area.
