Mandatory Outdoor Water Restrictions

July 28, 2016

OFFICIAL NOTICE
MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES
MANDATORY
OUTDOOR WATERING RESTRICTIONS

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

To all Montville Township Residents and Businesses:

2015 saw the lowest local rainfall since 2001, which was a severe drought period. Rainfall measurements for 2016 are 4 to 5 inches below normal through July. The continued drought conditions, compounded by the high temperatures, have created an unusually high demand on the water system, particularly for lawn sprinkling. NJDEP has also issued a drought watch for northern and central New Jersey due to the lack of rainfall in the State.

In order to assure that there is sufficient water for all customers for their normal domestic and business needs, it is necessary at this time to institute the following MANDATORY restrictions on outdoor use of water:

1. NO LAWN SPRINKLING, EITHER BY AUTOMATIC SYSTEMS OR MANUAL METHODS.

2. NO CAR WASHING WITH OPEN HOSES.

3. NO HOSING OF SIDEWALKS OR DRIVEWAYS.

4. NO FILLING OF SWIMMING POOLS.

Watering of vegetable garden plots is permitted by hand, as well as watering shrubs and flowerbeds by bucket. Special situations involving newly seeded or sodded lawns and filling of new swimming pools, will be handled on a case by case basis. Please contact the Water and Sewer offices at (973) 331-3330.

** Failure to comply with these restrictions will result in summons and fines **

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

John C. Perry
Director of Public Works and Water and Sewer Utilities

**Please disregard the previous notice for “voluntary” water restrictions issued prior to July 28, 2016.**
