Montville Township receives the majority of its drinking water from three (3) groundwater wells located in the Towaco Valley Aquifer. Additional water is purchased from the Jersey City Water Supply in Boonton and from an interconnection with Lincoln Park. Due to the lack of adequate precipitation in 2015 and 2016, the water table level in the Towaco Valley Aquifer is currently at 44 feet. This is the lowest level since 2008. Because of these conditions, Montville Township is implementing “voluntary” water restrictions, and asking all residents to suspend all unnecessary water usage.
