UPDATE: Hydrant flushing has been postponed until Friday, March 17th or Monday March 20th due to the snowstorm. We will notify everyone if these dates change. This is also to give residents enough time to clear around hydrants that are on their property.

Annual Hydrant Flushing

March 15, 2017 – April 7, 2017

The Annual Hydrant Flushing will begin on weekdays, MARCH 15th to APRIL 7th  between the hours of 9AM-3PM. The purpose is to remove accumulated sediment in water mains.

We have divided the Township into 4 areas which were determined by which water tank feeds the area. Please refer to the Hydrant Flushing Area Map or the Street List to determine which area you are in. The areas will be flushed in the following order: red, yellow, blue then green. Please monitor the Street List to follow our progress. The rate of progress is directly affected by the flushing conditions found as our team moves through the Township.

Please keep in mind that discolored water could occur at any time during the flushing period but more likely when we flush the water mains in your neighborhood. The Street List will be updated periodically to show streets that have been flushed.

SCHOOLS & RESTAURANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE OF FLUSHING IN THE LOCATION’S AREA.

This process could result in discolored/cloudy water or low pressure during & immediately following the daily flushing. If you experience discolored water, open the cold-water faucets on the lowest floor of the house & allow the water to run until it clears (usually within 30 min). If it persists, call the Water and Sewer office at 973-331-3330.

Discolored or cloudy water is potable, but not desirable for use. We strongly recommend that water softeners be bypassed during the day throughout the flushing period and refrain from doing laundry & using water for drinking and cooking from 9am to 5pm.
